Details
Dear all,
We are pleased to announce an open position for a Master 2 Research internship (M2R) with the possibility of pursuing a PhD, or a direct PhD position at the Laboratoire d'Informatique de Grenoble (LIG) in the Marvin team (Université Grenoble Alpes, France): "Robust HTN Planning Under Uncertainties".
Context and Objectives
Automated planning is a core area of AI, and Hierarchical Task Network (HTN) planning is widely used across robotics, logistics, and industrial workflows. However, classical HTN models rely on deterministic assumptions.
The main objective is to develop a novel robust HTN planning framework based on an interval-based representation of uncertainties (such as temporal, quantitative resource, and boolean availability uncertainties). The candidate will address major scientific challenges including formal modeling, uncertainty propagation within hierarchical decompositions, and managing combinatorial complexity.
Profile and Required Skills
Master 2 (Research) student or Engineering degree in Computer Science, with a specialization in Artificial Intelligence or Operations Research.
Strong knowledge of automated planning, constraint programming, or optimization.
Strong software development skills (Rust/C++).
Proficiency in scientific English.
Position Details
Funding: CHAIR MIAI Hubot secured for 36 months (funding secured for the PhD following the M2 internship or for a direct PhD start).
Starting Date: February 2027 for the M2 internship, or as soon as possible for a direct PhD start.
Location: LIG, Marvin Team, Université Grenoble Alpes (Grenoble, France).
How to Apply
Interested candidates should send their application package (CV, cover letter, Master transcripts (M1/M2), and contact details of at least one academic reference) to Damien Pellier (Damien.Pellier@imag.fr).
Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis. Shortlisted candidates will be asked to complete a short programming assignment using the http://pddl4j.imag.fr/ library to validate their understanding of the topic.
Deadlines:
December 1st, 2026 for Master 2 internship applications.
Rolling basis for direct PhD applications.
Best regards,
