The Research Unit in Bioinformatics (RUBI, https://rubi.ru.ac.za/), in the Department of
Biochemistry, Microbiology and Bioinformatics at Rhodes University is pleased to
announce the first call for 2027 applications to its unique one-year MSc programme
in Bioinformatics, with the first-round closing date on 5 June 2026.
This intensive, research-focused programme offers a rare opportunity in South Africa to
develop advanced structural bioinformatics expertise. It is particularly suited to
students with a strong background in biological sciences, biochemistry, computer
science, or related fields, who are looking to gain specialised, cutting-edge skills in this
interdisciplinary area.
While the programme does not offer direct fellowships, selected candidates will
receive guidance in preparing research proposals for fellowship applications to the
National Research Foundation (NRF) of South Africa, as well as the Rhodes
University Postgraduate Fellowship. Fellowship application priority will be given to
South African students.

A comprehensive CV

Academic transcripts
Names and contact details of two referees
