Postdoctoral Opportunity | Autonomous Sensing Metamaterials | University of Glasgow
The Sustainable Multifunctional Materials & Additive Manufacturing (SM²AM) Laboratory (https://smmamglasgow.com/) is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Associate to join our team at the University of Glasgow, starting 1 May 2026, on a Henry Royce Institute–funded project.
This project focuses on autonomous sensing architected metamaterials, integrating:
· Additive Manufacturing
· Nano- and micro-engineered composites
· Experimental evaluation
· Multiscale, multiphysics, and data-driven modelling
The goal is to develop 3D-printed self-sensing lightweight composites capable of real-time structural health monitoring without external sensors. This is a unique opportunity to work closely with Hexcel (industry partner) and the University of Cambridge.
Essential expertise: Multiscale / Multiphysics modelling or Data-driven modelling of composites
Desirable skills: Additive Manufacturing; Experimental Mechanics
Duration: ~5 months (extendable subject to funding and performance)
Location: University of Glasgow (candidates already in the UK preferred)
